The major outcomes of the study were the rates of prematurity and intrauterine growth retardation, and the admission rate of newborns to the neonatal intensive care unit.

Results. Twenty-nine percent of the newborns were premature, and the intrauterine growth retardation rate was 1%. Forty-one newborns (13.6%), of whom 38 (92.6%) were preterm, were admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit. The admission selleck chemical rate of the study population was higher than the overall newborn neonatal

intensive care unit admission rate for our hospital of 9.7% (p < 0.05).

Conclusion. The rates of prematurity and neonatal intensive care unit admission were higher in adolescent mothers. This study is the first to demonstrate that the high NICU admission rate was related to premature deliveries in this group.”
“Currently available contraceptive methods offer a variety of options for women, but only very few for men which include surgical methods, condom and hormonal methods. Non-surgical and non-hormonal methods are under investigation. Among these, hormonal contraceptive approaches, including injections, oral and transdermal delivery systems of testosterone, have attracted the attention of investigators. Also non-hormonal approaches based on chemicals extracted from different plants such as cotton seed plant, Neem tree, Trypterigium wilfordii and Momordica Charantia seed, are known to have effect on male fertility.

Additionally, alkylated imino sugars, Ca++ PR-171 ic50 GDC-0941 channel blockers, indenopyridines, indazole-3-carboxylic acid analogues, reversible inhibition of sperm under

guidance (RISUG) which involves injection of stericmaleic anhydride with dimethyl sulfoxide, spermicide-microbicide (including gel formulations) and vaccine approaches are intended to interfere in a certain fertilization step. Information obtained from multi-center studies in several countries on both men or women shows the necessity for additional reversible male contraceptive methods. Results from recent surveys clearly indicate that there is a market and a need for novel pharmaceutical preparations for male contraception.”
“Background: In consideration of the distinctive structural characteristics of the eyelid, the optimally matching donor site to the original recipient site skin should be selected when a full-thickness skin graft is anticipated in a small-sized or medium-sized eyelid defect in middle-aged or elderly patients.

Methods: Eight patients ranging in age from 47 to 71 years suffered singular eyelid defects of different causes. Based on the location, shape, and degree of the defects, we removed the redundant skin as a skin graft from the same side in the contralateral eyelid in a routine blepharoplasty procedure and transferred the graft to repair the defect.

Results: The skin grafts survived in all cases, and the incisions healed primarily. The eyelid laxity improved, and no complications occurred.
